Jokowi Revokes Presidential Regulation On Alcohol Investment, Haji Lulung Thanksgiving

JAKARTA - The Head of Bamus Betawi Abraham Lunggana (Haji Lulung) held a thanksgiving as an expression of gratitude for President Joko Widodo's decision to revoke the attachment regarding alcohol investment in Presidential Decree No.10 of 2021 concerning the Investment Business Sector.

Lulung thanked the government for listening to the voices of various Islamic mass organizations and religious figures who had saved the nation's children from the threat of destroying the social order and the nation's generation.

"Thank you Pak Jokowi, this nation has been saved from the circulation and dangers of alcohol," said Lulung at the Lulung Abraham Lunggana Hajj Aspiration Home Post (HALAL) quoted by Antara, Wednesday, March 3.

The DPR legislator from Electoral District 3 of DKI Jakarta previously admitted that he was worried that the opening of the tap for investment in liquor (miras) was vulnerable to being interpreted as a step by the government to legalize the free circulation of alcohol in villages in the country.

"Alhamdulillah, the government finally realizes the dangers of this alcohol investment policy. Otherwise, the people in the villages can think that the government has allowed people to drink alcohol, this is very dangerous," said the Jakarta NU figure.

President Joko Widodo previously announced the withdrawal of the Presidential Decree attachment on Tuesday, March 2.

President Jokowi said this decision was taken after receiving input from ulama, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Muhammadiyah and other religious organizations.
