MADIUN - One convict of a terrorism case (napiter) who served a sentence at the Madiun Class I Penitentiary (Lapas) was declared purely free after serving three years in prison.

The prisoner who was declared free was HM, an inmate from Makassar, South Sulawesi.

"The person concerned has pledged allegiance to the Republic of Indonesia and is now free," said Head of Madiun Kadek Class I Prison Anton Budiharta in his statement quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, March 27.

According to him, the statement of the pledge of allegiance to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia was made voluntarily by the convict, after undergoing the deradicalization process in the local prison.

Anton said that the prisoner who had declared the pledge of allegiance to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia automatically regained his conditional rights as an inmate, namely in the form of general or special remissions.

"While in prison, HM has also shown behavior change and actively participates in coaching," he said.

To ensure that HM does not return to the radicalism-extremism route, the Madiun Prison has coordinated with relevant agencies such as BNPT, Idensus, Madiun City Police, Kodim 0803, and Brimob Det C Pioneer.

"The plan in question is to immediately return to Makassar," he said.

According to the data, HM began to be detained on March 31, 2021 because it was affiliated with Jamaah Ansharut Daulah Makassar. The man who was born in Selayar was then transferred to Prison I Madiun.

Previously, HM had pledged allegiance to the Republic of Indonesia on February 22, 2024, along with two other inmates.

The HM release procession took place at around 10:00 WIB. The prison officer led by Kadek Anton Budiharta carried out the handover with the identification of the Social (Idensos) for the East Java Region.
