Corruption Defendant DIPA Semarang Police Academy Sentenced To 4 Years In Prison

SemarANG - Semarang Police Officer for Accounting and Verification of Financial Affairs, Mardiyono, a defendant in the alleged DIPA corruption case at the police officer candidate printing institution was sentenced to four years in prison.

The verdict read by Chief Judge Judi Prasetya during a trial at the Semarang Corruption Court, was lighter than the prosecutor's demands for six years in prison.

"To declare the defendant guilty of violating Article 8 of Law Number 31 of 1999 which has been amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning the eradication of criminal acts of corruption," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, March 27.

In addition to corporal punishment, the judge also imposed a fine of Rp. 100 million, which if not paid, would be replaced with imprisonment for three months.

The defendant's own corruption crime occurred from 2013 to 2018.

In his decision, the judge found the defendant guilty of embezzlement in a position that cost the state Rp615 million.

According to him, the defendant accommodated the Semarang Police Academy's official budget in his personal account which was never registered with KPPN.

Of that amount of state money, he continued, around Rp220 million of which was used for the defendant's personal interests.

The judge also stated that the defendant's actions were to the knowledge of his superiors, namely the Head of Financial Affairs or Treasurer of Semarang Police Academy Tanti Agus Rini.

Based on this decision, both the defendant and the public prosecutor expressed their thoughts.
