North Kalimantan Governor Asks Airlines To Prepare Extra Flight Ahead Of Lebaran Homecoming

Anticipating a surge in passengers ahead and after Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijri, a number of airlines will add flights or extra flights at Tarakan International Airport.

North Kalimantan (Kaltara) Governor Zainal Arifin Paliwang said the extra flight was prepared by Lion Air Group airlines. Such as Super Air Jet, Lion Air and Batik Air from April 4-9, 2024.

"There will be additional flights from April 4 to 9. The route is Tarakan Jakarta, then Tarakan Surabaya and Tarakan Makassar," said Governor Zainal, Monday, March 25.

The availability of extra flights, continued Zainal, is the result of the coordination between the Provincial Government (Pemprov) of Kaltara and the airline.

"We can see from the experience of previous years, there has always been a surge in passengers ahead of the IdufFitri. Especially those who will travel from Kaltara to other islands in Indonesia such as Sulawesi and Java," he explained.

The governor hopes that the addition of this flight for people who want to go home for Eid does not need to worry about the need for air transportation.

"I hope other airlines such as Citilink can also add extra flights, so that we can anticipate a surge in passengers and prevent an expensive increase in ticket prices," he concluded.

To note, the number of travelers at Juwata International Airport in Tarakan City in Eid Al-Fitr 2023 then increased by 100 percent and is estimated to reach 2,000 people per day.
