The East Nusa Tenggara Tourism Office stated that an international survey agency called The Spectator Index has determined the Wae Rebo Traditional Village in Manggarai Regency, NTT as one of the most beautiful villages in second place in the world in 2024 after Rothenburg Ob der Tauber in Germany.
"Yes, we NTT people should be proud because Wae Rebo Traditional Village has been named the most beautiful village or small in the world and is in second place," said Acting Head of the NTT Tourism Office Joni Lie Rohi in Kupang as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, March 20.
He said this after the agency released the results of their survey of a number of small villages or towns in the world with amazing natural and cultural beauty.
Joni said the people of NTT should also be proud because from all tourist areas in Indonesia only the village of Wae Rebo in Manggarai Regency is seen or glanced at.
Wae Rebo is a village located at an altitude of 1,100 meters above sea level and surrounded by mountains. The number of residents living in the area is estimated to reach only 1,200 people, this village consists of seven traditional houses in the form of cones that are of special attraction.
Wae Rebo has also been named a world cultural heritage in 2021.
The Head of Tourism Office said it should be admitted that some tourism potentials in NTT were indeed looked at by the world, the last one being Sumba Island was designated as the most beautiful island in the world.
"This time it's Wae Rebo. This means that we have an attraction to attract tourists to visit and of course it means that this is increasingly known to the world," continued Joni.
According to him, the success of Wae Rebo and also the island of Sumba as the two most beautiful locations in the world is because of the concept of sustainable NTT tourism development related to the Community Based Tourism to build tourism in the future.
Currently, it is necessary to encourage the quality of tourist services so that tourists who come can have an interesting experience and can make tourists continue to arrive.
Joni hopes that what Wae Rebo has achieved should be a reference for other tourist areas in NTT to continue to develop the tourism concept so that it is also more well known.
