JATENG - Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X assessed that his area does not yet need to establish the status of Extraordinary Events (KLB) on the attractor cases that appear in Sleman and Gunungkidul Regencies.

"I don't think it's necessary, unless there is a basis for disease development. Otherwise (handling) can be localized, even better," said Sultan HB X, quoted from the official website of the Yogyakarta Regional Government in Yogyakarta, Friday, March 15, quoted by Antara.

According to Sultan, the KLB status has not been needed, although when compared to the previous anti-extraction case, the case that occurred this year was only a matter of months.

He hopes that the handling that has been carried out can solve the existing cases.

The King of the Yogyakarta Palace admitted that he was surprised that the practice of "brandu" or slaughtering dead livestock continued to repeat itself so that there were again attracting cases in Sleman and Gunungkidul.

"I was surprised there. That's why I gave a note to the Agriculture Health Service (Dinas), why (community behavior) always repeats itself. Maybe it takes good literacy to the community of farmers, how to take care of livestock and himself so that BETraks doesn't happen again," he said.

Sri Sultan also advised farmers to always be careful and be able to recognize the condition of their livestock, by treating them when known to be sick.

"When the cow breeders don't understand that the cow is loose, just silent, weak, I don't suspect it's impossible. It should be treated, don't cut to death because it's a shame, Iha yo piye," he said.

Head of the DIY Agriculture and Food Security Service (DPKP) Hery Sulistio Hermawan said the DIY Regional Government needed to intervene in behavior, especially in the practice of "purak" or "brandu" sick or dead livestock.

The intervention aims to increase the effectiveness of Information and Education Communication (KIE) to the community and livestock owners and can allocate a budget for the cementation of locations that are polluted by BETraks.

"This behavioral intervention and increase in KIE is to prevent cuts in sick animals, dead or 'brandu'," he said.

Together with all veterinary authority officials, DPKP DIY has compiled an anti-extraction control zoning and determined by each head of the district/city service.

DPKP DIY, said Hery, has collected data on livestock populations, logistics infrastructure, such as medicines, vitamins, vaccines and disinfectants, resources to handle cases that have occurred in Sleman and Gunungkidul.

In addition, his party is also trying to provide resources to maximize treatment for livestock, implementation of vaccinations, including controlling animal traffic.

Meanwhile, based on the results of the investigation by the DIY Health Office, there were 26 cases of anti-extraction suspects in Sleman Regency in the period 8-12 March 2024, with the suspected death of 1 case. Meanwhile, in Gunungkidul Regency, 19 cases were detected in the same period, of which two suspects were still undergoing hospitalization.

"There are 46 additional suspects in total. For one case, the suspect died, the sample has not been taken and no audit of the cause of death has been carried out," said Head of the DIY Health Service Pembajun Setyaningastutie.

Pembajun revealed that the handling of the suspected anti-extraction case was carried out through an epidemiological investigation in both districts and sampling was carried out on symptomatic ones.
