JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian said that the government hopes that the discussion of the Draft Law (RUU) on the Province of the Special Region of Jakarta (DKJ) can be resolved immediately, to provide legal certainty regarding the existence of the capital city of Jakarta so that the status is clear.

"We must be consistent with the mandate in the IKN Law (State Capital), Law Number 3 of 2022 Article 41 paragraph 2, which mandates that the revision of the Special Region of Jakarta Law is carried out no later than 2 years after the IKN Law is promulgated," Tito said in a statement quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, March 13.

He explained that the IKN Law was passed on February 15, 2022, so that the revision of the Law on DKJ should have been completed on February 15, 2024. Therefore, the DPR RI was encouraged to immediately complete the discussion of the revision of the regulation.

His party claimed to have submitted the Problem Inventory List (DIM) to the DPR RI in January 2024. However, the discussion was postponed due to the implementation of the 2024 General Election on February 14, 2024.

If during this session the discussion is held, it is hoped that the revision can be completed soon. Moreover, there is still time until the trial period is complete on April 4, 2024.

The Minister of Home Affairs said that the settlement efforts could be carried out by working on a marathon by the Working Committee (Panja), the Perumus Team (Timus), and the Synchronization Team (Timsin) by discussing one by one DIM.

If this step is implemented, he is optimistic that the revision of the Law on DKJ Province can be resolved immediately, so that it does not become a moral burden on the provisions that have been mutually agreed upon.

"Therefore, for legal certainty, we ask with all due respect that we are consistent in resolving it, consistently resolving it during this trial," he explained.

Responding to the issue of public participation, Tito said that in the process of revising the law, efforts must be carried out.

Previously, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the DPR had also gathered public participation in formulating a draft bill on the DKJ Province.

"If there are still those who think that there will be fewer than the Panja Team, they could be invited," Tito concluded.
