Community Movement During Eid 2024 Estimated 193.6 Million People

JAKARTA - The Transportation Policy Agency of the Ministry of Transportation in collaboration with the Central Statistics Agency, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and experts predict that the movement of the community during Eid al-Fitr 1445H/2024 AD will reach 193.6 million people.

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said the prediction was based on a survey of potential community movements during Lebaran 2024.

"Based on the survey results, the national movement of people has the potential to reach 71.7 percent of the total population of Indonesia or 193.6 million people," Budi said in a statement in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Tuesday.

Budi said that this figure increased compared to the movement of people during the 2023 Eid period, namely 123.8 million people.

He said the results of a survey involving experts and academics in the transportation sector had been reported to President Joko Widodo. The results of this survey have also been informed to relevant stakeholders such as ministries/agencies, local governments, Korlantas Polri, BUMN and the private sector. "Looking at the picture of these conditions, we carried out preparation steps both operationally and in policies in control, transportation arrangements, and comprehensive handling together with ministries and institutions agencies at the central government, local governments, BUMN, and private parties," said Budi. Budi. Budi said the government would impose an effective policy to anticipate the occurrence of a spike in travelers which resulted in density in nodes and on roads through travel patterns, transportation patterns, and traffic patterns. "The implementation of discounts on mass transportation rates for going home early, free homecoming, traffic engineering, traffic discounts, toll road rates, to traffic regulation, especially in areas at risk of extraordinary density, we will do," continued Budi.

Budi explained that the survey results showed the most travel origin areas, namely East Java at 16.2 percent (31.3 million people), followed by Jabodetabek at 14.7 percent (28.43 million people), and Central Java at 13.5 percent (26.11 million people).

Meanwhile, for the most destination areas, namely Central Java at 31.8 percent (61.6 million people), East Java at 19.4 percent (37.6 million people), and West Java at 16.6 percent (32.1 million people).

Meanwhile, the public's interest in choosing the use of transportation for Eid homecoming was the train of 20.3 percent (39.32 million), the bus 19.4 percent (37.51 million), the private car 18.3 percent (35.42 million), and the motorcycle 16.07 percent (31.12 million).

"The community's interests are influenced by several factors, including the absence of COVID-19, family economy, collective leave, school holidays, improving the quality and quantity of transportation infrastructure, and weather conditions," explained Budi.

The estimated peak of the homecoming day based on the choice of the community is D-2 or Monday, April 8, 2024 (starting collective leave) with a potential movement of 26.6 million people (13.7 percent). Meanwhile, the estimated peak of the return day is D+3, namely Sunday, April 14, 2024 with a potential movement of 41 million people (21.2 percent).

Every year the Transportation Policy Agency (BKT) of the Ministry of Transportation always issues a survey of potential community movements during the Eid transportation period.

The survey is claimed to prove accurate in providing the potential for community movement to go home where in 2023 the number will reach 123.8 million people or 45.67 percent.
