PLN Strengthens Electric Vehicle Ecosystem Towards More Connected Jakarta Transportation

JAKARTA - A connected transportation system is the foundation of Jakarta to become a Global City. Development is also carried out in the context of transitioning from fossil fuel transportation to electricity that is more environmentally friendly.

The implementation has been carried out through the Electric Rail Train (KRL) commuter line, Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), Integrated Highways (LRT), HIGH Speed Trains, Transjakarta, electric taxis, and electric online motorcycle taxis. The interest of the people of Jakarta in using electric vehicles is also increasing, making PLN even more enthusiastic in providing a reliable transportation mode ecosystem.

In supporting transportation mode connectivity in Jakarta and its surroundings, General Manager of PLN Main Distribution Unit (UID) Jakarta Raya, Lasiran ensures that the electricity supply capacity in Jakarta is sufficient and reliable. He expressed this when he attended the Jakarta Transport Forum 2024, which was held on Thursday (7/3) at the Jakarta International Equestrian Park.

"We are ready, to provide electricity and support transportation mode connectivity in Jakarta. We have established good partnerships with MRT, LRT, commuter line, Transjakarta, and other electric transportation mode providers. The comfort of the people of Jakarta in traveling is our priority," explained Lasiran.

PLN as a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) also received a mandate from the government to accelerate the battery-based electric motor vehicle program, as stated in Presidential Regulation No. 55 of 2019. Since the issuance of the Presidential Decree, PLN has prepared a capable electric vehicle ecosystem, starting from the Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU), General Electric Battery Charging Station (SPBLU), to General Electric Charging Station (SPLU).

"Until now, we have provided 49 SPKLUs with 80 chargers, more than 440 SPBKLUs, and more than 3,200 SPLUs. Not only that, we also provide various incentives for electric vehicle users, ranging from new tidal discounts, power added discounts, to charging tariff discounts at night," Lasiran added.

The transition of environmentally friendly modes of transportation is also in line with PLN's commitment to realize a carbon-free Indonesia by 2060. Lasiran explained that the use of 1 liter of gasoline with a distance of 10 kilometers (km) can produce 2.4 kilograms (kg) of carbon emissions, while with the use of 1.2 kilowatt hour (kWh), electricity with a distance of 10 km only produces 1.2 kg of carbon emissions.

"If we use electric vehicles, we can reduce carbon emissions by up to 50 percent for the same distance. The costs that must be spent to buy 1.2 kWh of electricity are also cheaper than buying 1 liter of gasoline, where we can save up to 84 percent of operational costs," concluded Lasiran.

In this era of electric vehicles, PLN UID Jakafta Raya also guarantees sufficient supply to meet the electricity needs of the people of Jakarta.

"With a peak load of around 5,800 MW and our supply capacity of around 10,300 MW, we still have a power reserve of around 44%," concluded Lasiran.
