Aceh Provincial Government: Mubadala Exploration At WK South Andaman Must Be Supported

The Aceh Provincial Government stated that the exploration of a company from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Mubadala Energy in the South Andaman working area (WK), the waters of Aceh Province, must be supported.

"We need to support its exploration. If successful, it will foster the Aceh economy," said Head of Aceh's Energy and Mineral Resources Office Mahdinur at the "Synergy with Aceh Media: Get To Know More Close to the Upstream Oil and Gas Industry and the Role of Local Media in Public Understanding in Regions" in Medan, Friday.

According to Mahdinur, the entry of companies such as Mubadala Energy and their partners Harbour Energy to explore the South Andaman WK area is a good signal for the entry of investment into Aceh.

Investment, he continued, is important to ensure the sustainability of Aceh's economic growth in the future.

"This must be understood by the public. Management of natural resources (SDA) requires investment because natural resources cannot be found just like that," said Mahdinur.

He continued, the exploration process requires a lot of funds and it is entirely borne by the Explorator company.

Regarding WK South Andaman, Mahdinur said that the Mubadala Energy and Harbor Energy had invested millions of US dollars, from studies to exploration executions.

"The people of Aceh must be grateful that God has given oil and gas potential here. If Mubadala's exploration is successful, then there will be results that will be divided into regions according to the law. In essence, natural resources must be managed fairly and sustainably," said Mahdinur.

Meanwhile, Specialist Business Process Improvement, Risk Management and Audit Mubadala Energy Zeena Rimba stated, her party invested hundreds of millions of US dollars to explore the Andaman area.

In the area, precisely on Screen-1 WK South Andaman which is about 100 kilometers from the northern coast of Sumatra, Mubadala Energy found gas potential of more than six trillion cubic feet.

The discovery, which was announced at the end of 2023, is considered to exceed the potential for gas in the North 1 Gang well, Kutai basin, and is in the top three of the world.

The Screen 1 well is the first deep sea well to be operated and drilled up to a depth of 4,208 meters at sea water depth of 1,207 meters.

"In Indonesia, we operate four blocks, namely Sebuku, Andaman I, South Andaman and Andaman II. In the process, we never felt 'loss time incident' (losing time due to accidents)," said Zeena.
