A Number Of Trucks Trapped In The Semeru Cold Lava Flow

LUMAJANG - A number of sand mining trucks operating in the Regoyo Watershed (DAS) in Jugosari Village, Lumajang Regency, East Java, are trapped by the cold lava flow of Mount Semeru.

"There are several trucks trapped by the flow of cold lava from Mount Semeru, but previously we have appealed to sand miners to be vigilant because of extreme weather," said Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of BPBD Lumajang Regency Yudi Cahyono as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, March 8.

According to him, BPBD and volunteers always provide socialization to sand miners to be careful when the weather is cloudy and heavy rains flush the peak area of Mount Semeru.

"We have also warned sand miners working in the Semeru cold lava flow area that over the next week there will be extreme weather based on information from the BMKG," he said.

There were no casualties in the incident when the sand mining truck was trapped in the cold lava flow of Mount Semeru in Jugosari Village, but the number of trucks trapped was higher than a few days ago.

"Information on the vibrations of the Semeru cold lava flood recorded a maximum amplitude of 16 mm, so the cold lava flow discharge was quite heavy," he said.

Yudi explained that the cold lava flood of Mount Semeru, which was quite heavy, was still safe and under control, so it did not overflow into residential areas.

Based on a video circulating in the Semeru group, there were six sand mining trucks trapped in the cold lava flow of Mount Semeru and currently miners are trying to evacuate truck vehicles to the edge and not to be dragged by the swift flow of lava floods.

Meanwhile, Mount Semeru Observation Post Officer Ghufron Alwi in a written report in Lumajang Regency stated that observations of the seismic activity of Mount Semeru on March 8 at 12.00-18.00 WIB showed flood vibrations.

"There was one earthquake with a flood earthquake with an amplitude of 16 mm, and an earthquake of 9,300 seconds," he said.
