Bawaslu Examines Whistleblowers And Witnesses Of Alleged Democratic Candidate Money Politics

JAKARTA - The Central Jakarta General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) has examined reporters and witnesses related to allegations of money politics by two candidates for legislative members from the Democratic Party.

"The reporter and witness have been examined. For the reported party, we will invite them tomorrow, Friday, March 8, 2024," said Central Jakarta Bawaslu member Dimas Triyanto Putro as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, March 7.

Two Democrat Party candidates who were summoned and clarified as reported on Friday (8/3) were candidates for DPR RI members from the DKI Jakarta II electoral district Melani Leimena Suharli, and a candidate for DKI Jakarta Provincial DPRD members from the 7 DKI Jakarta electoral district Ali Muhammad Johan.

Clarification related to the alleged money politics against the two Democratic Party candidates, he said, would be carried out behind closed doors.

"If the clarification is confidential, internal. However, later the results can be conveyed openly after the examination," he explained.

In handling cases of alleged money politics, Dimas said that his party would coordinate with the police and the prosecutor's office because these three institutions are members of the Integrated Law Enforcement Center (Gakkumdu) which handles election crimes.

Previously, the chairman of the DKI Jakarta Democratic Party DPD, Mujiyonome, stated that his party respected the process at Bawaslu.

"It has been handled by Bawaslu. We respect the process," said Mujiyono.

Mujiyono has not disclosed the Democratic Party's firm steps if Melani and Ali are proven to have committed money politics.

He also did not provide a straightforward answer when asked about the possibility of the Democratic Party processing Melani and Ali to the level of the Party Court if found guilty.

Mujiyono emphasized that his party will follow the ongoing process.

"We follow the process first," he said.
