JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian asked local governments (Pemda) to be aware of the flow of homecoming and backflow in Lebaran 2024.

Tito Karnavian asked the local government to check various transportation infrastructures to ensure that people's mobility can run smoothly.

"The flow of homecoming and backflow is an annual ritual, Indonesia is known as one of the countries with millions of backflows and backflows, tens of millions of people," Tito said in a statement in Jakarta, Monday.

In addition, Tito appealed to regional heads to pay attention to various transportation routes, either by land, sea, or air.

The Minister of Home Affairs reminded regions that already have toll road infrastructure not to be careless about the various potential obstacles on other routes, such as the spilled market.

Meanwhile, areas that rely on sea route transportation should immediately check the condition of ports. This includes checking transportation facilities such as ships to prepare various safety equipment for passenger needs.

"The facilities of ships carrying passengers require that to prepare buoys and passengers using buoys, this must be our habit, our habit," he said.

This step, said Tito, was to avoid casualties when an accident occurred on the sea route.

The former National Police Chief also mentioned one of the accidents in the waterway that resulted in the victim drowning because he did not use safety equipment.

"Well, we only focus on one incident in other areas in Java and Sumatra because the homecoming flow and backflow are at most, millions, but one ship accident in the area will tarnish everything," explained Tito.

In addition, he emphasized the importance of local governments checking various transportation infrastructures before Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr arrived. This step is by coordinating with Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) officers, especially to require all transportation to be equipped with safety equipment such as buoys.
