Rommy: There Is An Urge For PPP To Be Opposition In The Prabowo-Gibran Government

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Advisory Council of the United Development Party (PPP) Muhammad Romahurmuziy said that there was encouragement from various regions so that his party would become opposition in the next government. "The push for PPP to maintain opposition attitudes is still there even from the regions," said the man who is familiarly called Romy, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, February 29. This follows the statement by the Chairman of the Election Winning Body (Bappilu) PPP Sandiaga Uno who is open to joining the Prabowo-Gibran coalition. However, he considered Sandiaga's statement to be a personal opinion. "But as stated by Mr. Sandi it is among the growing personal aspirations and no decision has yet been made at the party level," he said. Because, his party has not yet determined an attitude related to the political steps to be taken after the 2024 election. Rommy emphasized that until now PPP is focusing on guarding vote counting until the Indonesian KPU announces the results of the 2024 election officially on March 20. This is also a form of the PPP's solidity in the Ganjar-Mahfud support coalition. "It is still too early in responding to the new government, because the winner is who has not even been announced by the KPU," said Rommy. In addition, he revealed that PPP has experience as an opposition of more than half the age of the party bearing the Kaaba symbol. Previously, PPP Chairman of the Election Winning Body (Bappilu) PPP Sandiaga Uno answered questions about the opportunity for his party to join the Prabowo-Gibran coalition. Sandiaga said that PPP is currently a party supporting the government and its position is in government. According to his personal view, PPP would be very honored to be invited to build the nation.

"Because according to his name, the United Development Party for Indonesian unity and development must actively participate in building the nation. That's my view," said Sandiaga last Monday. Nevertheless, Sandi emphasized that the determination of the political direction of PPP will be in a national leadership meeting.
