JAKARTA - The United Nations agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), said it could not safely deliver humanitarian aid to the northern Gaza Strip amid gunfire by Israeli soldiers.

"We cannot safely reach northern Gaza and most of southern Gaza," UNWRA was quoted as saying by Anadolu, Wednesday, February 28.

"The aid convoy is reported to have continued to be criticized and not given access by the Israeli government."

The refugee agency said the flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza had decreased by 50 percent in February.

"The number of trucks entering Gaza is still far below the 500 trucks per day's target, with significant difficulties in bringing supplies through Karem Abu Salem (Karem Shalim) and Rafah," he added.

"UNRWA trucks have difficulty entering the Gaza Strip due to security and temporary closure constraints at both crossings."

UNRWA Commissioner General Philippe Lazzarini on Sunday warned of hunger in Gaza as aid agencies found it difficult to deliver food to the northern part of the bag.

"The last time UNRWA sent food aid to northern Gaza was on January 23," Lazzarini wrote on social media.

The latest finding from partner organizations affiliated with the United Nations shows that acute malnutrition has increased in Gaza to 16.2 percent exceeding the critical threshold set by the World Health Organization (WHO) at 15 percent.

Israel has been attacking the Gaza Strip since a cross-border Hamas attack that Tel Aviv says killed nearly 1,200 people.

Israel's next bombardment has killed more than 29,000 residents and injured more than 69,000 people, resulting in mass destruction and a staple crisis.

Israel's war on Gaza has caused 85 percent of the region's population to flee amid food shortages, clean water, and medicines. While 60 percent of the region's infrastructure has been damaged and destroyed, the UN notes.

Israel is accused of committing genocide at the International Court. A provisional decision in January ordered Tel Aviv to stop the genocide and take action to ensure that humanitarian aid was provided to civilians in Gaza.
