Incomplete Documents, 49 Kg Of Beef From Makassar Confiscated In West Papua

WEST PAPUA - The West Papua Province Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine Center confiscated 49 kilograms (kg) of slice beef sent from Makassar, South Sulawesi (South Sulawesi).

The confiscation was carried out at Rendani Airport, Manokwari Regency, Wednesday afternoon, February 28. This activity is because the meat is not equipped with an animal health certificate.

Chairman of the West Papua Quarantine Law Enforcement Team, Aldrin, said that sending beef without complete documents violates Article 35 letter (a) of Law Number 21 of 2019 concerning Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine.

This article confirms that everyone who enters and or issues a carrier media from an area to another area in the territory of the Republic of Indonesia, must complete a health certificate from the designated expenditure place.

"Because the owner of the beef with the initials MP cannot show a health certificate from the area of origin," said Aldrin, confiscated by Antara.

He said quarantine provides three days for beef owners to complete a health certificate from their area of origin, and if the owner ignores it, then an act of extermination or rejection is applied.

Beef is a medium that carries quarantined animal disease (HPHK), such as mouth and nail disease (PMK), so that traffic must be monitored by quarantine.

"This action is to prevent the entry and spread of the disease to West Papua," said Aldrin.

He explained that the detention process began with the suspicion of West Papua Quarantine officers against two packages of items wrapped in plastic sacks.

Quarantine officers then coordinated with the cargo management, Aviation Security (Avsec) Rendani Airport and the expedition party to check the contents of the package in question.

"After opening, there is a box styrofoam containing slice beef without a animal health certificate, so he was immediately arrested," said Aldrin.
