Floods In 3 Districts Of South Lampung Reach 1 Meter, 177 Houses Affected

SOUTH LAMPUNG - Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds caused three sub-districts in South Lampung to be flooded.

"The rain has flushed South Lampung since 02.00 WIB in the morning [Wednesday, February 28, 2024], then around 07.00 WIB the water began to rise and submerged residential areas," said the Head of the South Lampung Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Ariswandi, in Kalianda, Wednesday, February 28, confiscated by Antara.

As a result, 177 houses in Sragi, Ketapang, and Pengmedian sub-districts were affected by flooding with a height of up to 1 meter. Road access was cut off.

"This morning the water had closed the road, but at 13.00 WIB the road covered with water was already accessible, but the settlements were still flooded," he said.

He conveyed that the areas affected by the flood disaster had received treatment from the South Lampung BPBD and related agencies, including the police, TNI, and volunteers.

Ariswandi said the flood disaster did not cause any casualties, only the environment and roads had a lot of mud material.

He appealed to the public to always be vigilant considering that the rainfall in the area is still quite high. He hopes that the community has an understanding of facing disasters that can occur at any time so as to reduce their impact.

"Not only cleaning and evacuating, the BPBD team also conducted socialization of disaster management and appealed to residents to remain vigilant against the threat of natural disasters," he said.

To note, the flood incident occurred on Wednesday due to heavy rains in the Sragi sub-district, so that river water overflowed and submerged houses and residents' rice fields.

The sub-districts are lowlands and river estuaries, where water gathers during rain and high tides, so that water overflows and spreads to rice fields and settlements. As a result of the high water discharge, the overflow spreads to Ketapang and Pengawaran sub-districts which are directly adjacent to Sragi District.
