KPAI Surat Kominfo Asks To Remove Video Bullying Binus School Serpong From Social Media

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) sent a letter to the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) to remove viral videos of bullying or bullying students at Binus School Serpong from social media (medsos).

"To ensure that these identities (perpetrators and victims) are not widely exposed, we have written to Kominfo to take down the viral video," said KPAI Commissioner Aris Adi Leksono during a press conference at his office, Tuesday, February 27, which was confiscated by Antara.

The video is considered a form of violence and is vulnerable to influencing the future of the perpetrators, victims, and witnesses. It is feared that the video will be an inspiration for other young people to commit the same violence.

Not only that, KPAI asks for the coordination and accountability of all parties involved in handling this case. Starting from parents, legal apparatus, psychologists and other professions.

One of KPAI's concerns is that this digital footprint has the potential to hinder children involved in the future.

"This includes when they work and so on. So, from the start we conveyed it, including to the legal apparatus so as not to publish them, both victims, perpetrators, and witnesses," said Aris.

KPAI Commissioner Diyah Puspitarini added that the bullying case should not be underestimated because the impact was not only felt by the victims but also by the perpetrators.

"Not only for children who are bullied, but also for perpetrators. In fact, for children who witness the 'bullying' and have an impact on schools. The impact of this case cannot be taken lightly," said Diyah.

As the supervisor of the cluster of children victims of physical/psychical violence, Diyah hopes that this case will be handled more quickly. He also hopes that the Government, Regional Governments and other state institutions can increase their commitment to carrying out obligations and responsibilities for the case.
