JAMBI - The Jambi Regional Police's Ditreskrimsus Team arrested three illegal logging investors who allegedly looted wood from the forest in the Berbak National Park (TNB).

The illegal logs were to be sold to a wood cutting facility in Sengeti, Muarojambi Regency. Investigators are still pursuing two other perpetrators who also act as financiers.

Deputy Chief of Crimes of Polda Jambi, AKBP Muhammad Santoso said that this case was revealed after receiving reports that five trucks carrying logs from illegal logging were to be taken to one of the saumil in Sengeti.

The five trucks transported or carried 38 cubic meters of mixed jungle type logs. From the results of this arrest, the police arrested eight people, including five drivers and three illegal logging financiers who were crossing the Lintas Sumatra road.

The arrest of logs from illegal logging was carried out on Tuesday (23/2) at around 19.00 WIB in two different locations but still on the Sumatra highway.

The police arrested eight people from the illegal logging of mixed forest types and after being questioned, three suspects were identified as financiers and are still hunting two other investors.

The three illegal logging investors currently detained by the Jambi Regional Police, namely Riko, Paimin and Hamdani, are still being hunted and their identities are known, said AKBP Muhammad Santoso.

The illegal timber was captured in two areas, namely one car in the West Ring Road area, Kenali Asam Bawah Village, Kota Baru District and four PS trucks in the Jalan Lingkar Barat II area, Bagan Pete Village, Kota Baru District.

"We are currently investigating the three suspects to ask for information on how much capital the three suspects have spent for the illegal timber," said Santoso.

For now, the evidence for illegal timber and five PS trucks is deposited at the Kota Baru Police Headquarters.

The three suspects will be charged under Article 88 paragraph 1 letter a Uu no 18 of 2013 with a maximum penalty of only one year in prison and a maximum fine of IDR 5 billion.
