PVMBG Records Vibrations Of Rainy Lava Floods From Mount Lewotobi Men

JAKARTA - The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) through the Lewotobi Laki Volcano Observation Post, East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) recorded a rain lava flood vibration from the mountain.

"Earlier, it was recorded once at 15.36 WITA until 16.00 WITA," said Male Lewotobi Volcano Observer Bobyson Lamanepa from Wulanggitang District, East Flores, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, February 16.

The tremors of the rain lava flood were recorded once with an amplitude of 12.5 mm and a duration of 1.248 seconds.

He said the vibration was recorded because of heavy rains on rivers that originate at the top of the mountain.

"The public must always be vigilant, because if it rains at the top of a mountain with high intensity, there is a potential for rain lava flow," he said.

The appeal for the public to always be aware of the rain lava flood is always conveyed by the Men's Lewotobi Volcano Observation Post.

Bobyson said that the rainy lava flood had been recorded three times in February 2023 so that the public must continue to be aware of it.

Mount Lewotobi Male in East Flores is an active volcano that is now at level III or Alert.

PVMBG has recommended that the public, including visitors or tourists, not carry out any activities within a three-kilometer radius (km) from the eruption center.

Similar recommendations were also given for sectoral 4 km to the north-northeast and 5 km to the northeast sector.

"To avoid volcanic danger, people are recommended to continue wearing masks," said Bobyson.
