The Directorate of Water and Air Police (Ditpolairud) of the South Kalimantan Regional Police arrested a gang of pirates of the TB Royal 27 ship who stole 798 kiloliters of pharmaceutical oil with a loss value of more than Rp. 8.2 billion.
"A total of 13 perpetrators were arrested, including the custodians," said Police Chief Inspector General Winarto when releasing the disclosure of the case at the South Kalimantan Police Headquarters, Banjarmasin, Antara, Friday, February 16.
The case of the hijacking of the TB Royal 27 ship occurred on Thursday, February 1, 2024, when the ship with a pharmaceutical oil load of 3,959 kiloliters belonging to PT Musumas and 14 crew members sailed from Sampit, Central Kalimantan, to PT Pertamina Tanjung Manggis, Karang Asam, Bali.
After sailing for about 12 hours, precisely in the waters of Tanjung Selatan, Tanah Laut Regency, South Kalimantan, the eight pirates boarded the ship after approaching from the left stern using a kelotok type boat.
With sharp weapons and a gun which was later discovered to be just a toy gun, the perpetrator threatened the crew of the TB Royal 27 and held confinement.
The ship was fully controlled by pre-hijackers until it approached the SPOB Bagas Dinar Jaya 01 ship and SPOB Sumber Baru Mulyo copied 600 kiloliters of home oil cargo.
Furthermore, the SPOB Bagas Dinar Jaya 01 and SPOB New Source Mulyo sailed to Banjarmasin and docked in Brangas waters. However, the SPOB Bagas Dinar Jaya 01 ship sank after a leak in the engine room.
Meanwhile, the ship TB Royal 27, which was finally controlled by the crew again with the captain Jhonny Gunawan, managed to anchor in the Asam-Asam Waters on Sunday (4/2) until he reported the incident of piracy to his company PT Musanas as the owner of the pharmaceutical oil and PT Pancaran.
On Tuesday (6/2), the company made a report to the South Kalimantan Regional Police and the regional police chief formed a team led by the Director of Polairud Police Commissioner Andi Adnan Syafruddin to conduct an investigation.
The mission to pursue the perpetrators began after the police processed data and mapped the location of the escape of a gang of pirates.
Assisted by the Jatanras Team of the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of the South Kalimantan Police, the Sub-Directorate of Gakkum Ditpolairud of the South Kalimantan Police arrested one by one the perpetrators from different places during the three days of pursuit.
"Eight executors, including intellectual and collector actors, were arrested in Central Kalimantan, Riau Islands and South Sulawesi," explained the Kapolda.
Now the police are still hunting for three other perpetrators who have not been caught, but their identities have been pocketed.
The disclosure of this piracy case was appreciated by the Head of the Polairud Baharkam Police Corps Inspector General M. Yasin Kosasih who was present at the press conference.
"The fast movement of the Ditpolairud Polda South Kalimantan under the orders of the regional police chief and the direction of the director has shown good performance in law enforcement efforts. This is a big case that requires an investigation and investigation of extra hard work until it is successfully revealed quickly," he said.
Just to note, pharmaceutical oil stands for fat acid methylester is a type of biodiesel that results from the transferred process of fatty acids with methanol.
Until now, fame oil continues to grow and is used in many countries as one of the main components of diesel fuel.
