Papuan Police Chief: Kamtibmas Conducive During Election Voting

JAYAPURA - Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri said the security and public order situation (kamtibmas) during the 2024 election vote in Papua was relatively conducive.

"As of Wednesday at around 13.00 WIT, the security and social security situation in Papua is relatively safe and conducive. Hopefully this kind of situation will be maintained," said Mathius Fakhiriiusai monitoring the implementation of voting in a number of districts in Jayapura City and Regency as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, February 14.

He said that although the security and security situation was safe, there were several districts where there were a number of problems related to the election, namely the burning of ballot boxes in Paniai Regency, Central Papua.

In addition, he said, there were delays in sending election logistics due to unfriendly weather, for example in Mamberamo Raya Regency, causing the community at 20 polling stations in four districts to be hampered.

For logistics delivery in four districts in Mamberamo Raya Regency, he said, Pangdam XVII/Cenderawasih will assist by deploying helicopters belonging to the TNI.

"With the assistance of transportation from Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih, it is hoped that sending election logistics will not be an obstacle," said the Papuan Police Chief.

Currently, the number of voters on the permanent voter list (DPT) in Tanah Papua is 727,835 people who channel their voting rights at 3,109 polling stations.

Papua Province consists of nine regencies and cities covering Jayapura, Keerom, Sarmi, Supiori, Biak Numfor, Waropen, Yapen Islands and Mamberamo Raya Regency.
