A man in Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands (Kepri), named Kamsan (44), became a suspect for throwing cigarette butts carelessly.

TANJUNG PINANG - A man in Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands, named Kamsan (44) became a suspect for throwing cigarette butts carelessly. These cigarette butts trigger forest and land fires covering an area of 3,000 square meters.

The team was secured by the Tanjung Pinang Timur Police based on a Julizar resident's report regarding forest and land fires on empty land, to be precise next to the Takasinaya furniture shop, Jalan DI Panjaitan, Melayu Kota Piring.

"After receiving the report, our team went straight to the location to carry out an investigation. The result was that it was found that the arsonist was a Takasinaya furniture shop repairman, then the perpetrator was secured along with evidence", said Head of the East Tanjung Pinang Police, Firuddin, quoted by Antara, Thursday, February 25.

The forest and land fire incident started when the perpetrator came to work smoking. Perpetrators littered cigarette butts while alive on top of the pile of garbage in the empty land.

The perpetrator was not aware that his actions caused the fire to ignite and sparked a fire over the empty land.

From the hands of the perpetrators, said Firuddin, evidence was also secured in the form of a white LA lighter and an opened pack of branded cigarettes.

"The perpetrator is suspected of Article 188 of the Criminal Code with the threat of 5 years in prison because his negligence caused a fire", said the police chief.
