Class 1 Cipinang Prison Prisoners In Drug Cases Enthusiastically Participate In The 2024 Election

JAKARTA - Bagas (25) a resident of prison inmates (WBP) or convicts of narcotics cases languishing in Class 1 Cipinang prison seemed enthusiastic about participating in the 2024 election voting at the Cipinang Prison Special Voting Station (TPS).

"It's great to be able to come. Hopefully, our leader will be honest and generous to his people and fair," Bagas told VOI at the Special TPS location.

Bagas admitted that this voting activity was his first experience in voting at the Correctional Institution (Lapas).

"This is the first time I have voted in prison. It's only this year I participated in the election," he said.

Bagas said that he had served more than 3 years in prison in Cipinang Class 1 prison for narcotics cases.

"I was involved in a drug case with a sentence of 5 years. I have served 3 years and 2 months," he said.

From VOI's observation at the location, it seemed enthusiastic from the inmates when they came to the TPS location. They walk in groups and queue to give their voting rights.

Previously, it was reported that thousands of inmates (WBP) or inmates of Class 1 Cipinang Prison, East Jakarta began voting at 12 special locations located in the prison area on Wednesday, February 14, morning. The voting began to open at around 08.00 WIB.

Head of the Regional Office (Kakanwil) of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) DKI Jakarta, Ibnu Chuldun accompanied by the Head of Class 1 Cipinang, Enget Pulungan Prayer Manik said, on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, his staff started from the State Civil Apparatus (ASN), Non-Employment Government Employees (PPNPN) and inmates held General Elections at special locations for prison and detention stations in DKI Jakarta.

"In Cipinang Class 1 Prison, there are 12 polling stations with 2585 inmates registered as voters," Ibnu told VOI at the location, Wednesday, February 14.
