The Ministry Of PUPR Has Started Repairing The Broken Wulan Demak River Embankment

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has begun to repair the left embankment of the Wulan River in Ketanjung Village, Karanganyar District, Demak Regency, which collapsed at two points.

"The repair of the embankment has been broken since Friday (9/2) afternoon by deploying a number of heavy equipment," said Director General of Water Resources of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing Bob Arthur Lombgia when met on the sidelines of reviewing the construction of the Wulan River left embankment at the Tanggulangin Bridge on the Kudus and Demak border, reported by ANTARA, Saturday, February 10.

Heavy equipment prepared, including three standard excavator units, two units of amphibious excavators (excavators that can operate above the river), and long arm excavators.

Meanwhile, the Wulan River embankment collapsed, he said, was 10 meters long and 30 meters.

The embankment, he said, must be closed first. Meanwhile, efforts to reduce flood inundation have prepared 12 units of water suction pump machines with a capacity of 500 liters per second.

Of the dozens of units of the puddle suction pump, five units of the water suction pump have now been operating to reduce the discharge that came out of the broken embankment.

Bob admitted that there were access problems in repairing the embankment, because the heavy equipment deployed had to go through the embankment, while to transport material, some were passing through the river water.

"Amphibious excavators are also used to cover materials," he said.

Because the water discharge is high, he said, the construction of the embankment repairs must be careful so that they must find the best solution so that the embankment is closed safely.

Meanwhile, to anticipate further flooding, his party is trying to quickly complete the closure of the broken embankment.

"We are targeting the construction of the broken embankment to be completed on Monday the day after tomorrow," he said.
