Workshop Burns In Matraman, One Person Dies

JAKARTA - The motorcycle workshop on Jalan Kayu Manis 9, Matraman, East Jakarta, was burned down, causing one person to die.

"A man named Sabar (65) died due to fire," said East Jakarta Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-dept. Operations Section Head Gatot Sulaeman, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, February 9.

The fire occurred at 07.27 WIB when one of the workshop employees was patching a motorcycle tire while filling retail gasoline, resulting in fire lighting and bridges to the workshop building.

"The cause of the fire was a gas spill. The motorbike was patching the tires, but the gasoline spilled over the fire to patch the tires so that the lighting occurred," said Gatot.

The fire quickly spread to the workshop building and the two housing units next to it were also burned down.

Firefighters also deployed 11 fire engines with 55 personnel to extinguish the red rooster.

The fire also resulted in one resident, Dodi suffered burns and was rushed to the Matraman Regional General Hospital (RSUD).

Losses due to the fire are estimated at Rp800 million.
