KY Affirms The Need For Ad Hoc HAM Judges In The Supreme Court Urges

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Judicial Commission (KY) Siti Nurdjanah said the need for ad hoc judges at the Supreme Court (MA) was considered very urgent. For this reason, KY opened registration of candidates for ad hoc HAM judges in the Supreme Court from January 30 to February 22, 2024. The number of candidates for ad hoc HAM judges in the Supreme Court is three people.

In the selection of candidates for ad hoc HAM judges in 2022/2023, KY has submitted the names of participants who passed to the House of Representatives (DPR). However, all of them were rejected. This causes that they have not been able to try cases of gross human rights violations.

In fact, according to him, the candidates for ad hoc human rights judges who were submitted were very competent. KY has also asked for input from the public and the National Commission (Komnas) of Human Rights to get ad hoc HAM MA judges with full competence, both in integrity and technicality. At that time, Nurdjanah hoped that of the three names, at least one or two people could be approved by the DPR so that the rest would be fulfilled in the next selection. Thus, the Supreme Court can be a little relieved.

This year, he said, reopening the registration of ad hoc judges at the request of the Supreme Court to conduct a selection. "For this year's selection, hopefully, I can pass in the DPR because it is a bit difficult to find ad hoc judges, in terms of interest," he concluded.
