Unair Strong Criticism Of Jokowi's Leadership, Reminds President To Carry Out Ethics And Democracy Without KKN

SURABAYA - Lecturers, professors, alumni to students from Universitas Airlangga (Unair) Surabaya, are concerned about the political situation under the administration of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) which is considered destroyed.

Unair expressed his attitude entitled "Unair Calling Strengthening Democracy, Protecting the Republic", in the courtyard of the Post-graduate Unair Surabaya building, Monday, February 5.

Unair highlighted the democratic condition ahead of the 2024 General Election which was considered to have begun to collapse. It was read a statement of the attitude of "Enforcing Democracy, Protecting the Republic" in the Unair and Knight Airlangga environment which was read by Hotman Siahaan.

There were a number of Unair professors participating in this action, namely Ramlan Surbakti (Teacher of Political Science), Hotman Siahaan (Teacher of Sociology), Henri Subiakto (Teacher of Communication Science), Abdul Hafid (Professional Professor of FK), Annis Catur Adi, (Gizi Professor of Science), Basuki Rekso Wibowo (Alumnus FH), and Thomas Santoso (Alumnus Sociology).

"The president must remember that the legitimacy and support of the people to his government since 9 years ago, cannot be separated from the hope that the President will carry out the ethics of the republic, care for democracy and a KKN-free government," said Hotman, Monday, February 5.

When he was about to end his government, Hotman continued, President Jokowi had to take a stance that did not tarnish these main principles. He also called for Jokowi as the supreme leader of government and head of state, to take care of the ethical principles of the republic by not abusing power, and to stop efforts to perpetuate family politics.

"We also call for political, social, economic and cultural independence of civil society to be guaranteed by the state. Because Indonesia belongs to all people, it does not belong to certain groups or groups," he said.

Regarding the implementation of the 2024 General Election, Unair urged the organizers to be fair, not to cheat and without violence. Including political parties, must reform themselves in carrying out the functions of articulation, aggregation and political education of citizens.

Not only that, Unair also criticized various forms of intervention and intimidation against academic pulpits in universities. Ask universities to maintain dignity, rationality and criticality to the government for the sake of the establishment of the republic.

"There are four points of call that we made today. This campus only gives a moral appeal, we do not take practical political actions. This moral call is the framework of the entire morality of this nation in the framework of a democratic country," he explained.

Meanwhile, Unair Political Science Lecturer, Airlangga Pribadi Kusman, revealed that the statement of attitude and petition had been signed by more than 100 Unair academics and even colleagues outside Unair. He said the action was a response to the current political dynamics.

"This stance statement departs from our concern as academic personnel towards recent developments because we see that the state administrators are getting further away from the ethical principles of the republic," he said.
