As Many As 1.3 Million Indonesians Have Been Vaccinated Against COVID-19

JAKARTA - As many as 1.363.138 people in Indonesia have been vaccinated against COVID-19, an increase of 93.233 residents from the previous day. This is an effort to form herd immunity or group immunity against the SARS CoV 2 virus in handling the pandemic in Indonesia.

Based on data from the Ministry of Health, reported by Antara, in Jakarta, Wednesday, February 24, as many as 825.650 people from a total of 1.363.138 people have received the second dose of vaccination. This number increased by 35.684 people compared to the previous day.

The 1.3 million people vaccinated are a combination of health workers who have already been immunized in the first phase of the vaccination program plus injections into public service officers which have been started as a second stage vaccination program.

The vaccination target for health workers in Indonesia is 1.468.764 people. Meanwhile, the total vaccination target is 181.554.465 people, or about 70 percent of the Indonesian population.

The government has started the second phase of the COVID-19 vaccination program on February 17, 2021, which started with immunization to merchants at Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta. After that, the government gradually carried out injections into various professions serving in the public service sector such as ulama, journalists, the National Army and Police Force (TNI-Polri), and others.

The government, through the Ministry of Health, plans to organize mass vaccinations for journalists and media workers on February 25, 26, 27 at Bung Karno Basketball Hall, South Jakarta.

The government has also carried out a mass COVID-19 vaccination for religious leaders which was held at the Istiqlal Mosque in Central Jakarta yesterday. On this day, the government again conducted mass vaccinations for teachers and other teaching staff which was held at SMAN 70 Jakarta.
