JAKARTA - The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) is targeting the construction process of four new government-owned hospitals spread across four provinces to be completed this year.

"The existence of the Ministry of Health's hospital will strengthen the existing referral health service system," said Head of the Communication and Public Service Bureau of the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, February 1.

Four new hospitals realized this year, namely the UPT Vertical Surabaya Hospital (RS) in East Java, the UPT Vertical Makassar Hospital in South Sulawesi, the Capital Nusantara Vertical Hospital (IKN) in East Kalimantan, and the Jayapura Vertical Hospital in Papua.

According to Nadia, the new hospital will be the most complete health care center, especially for dealing with cancer, heart, stroke, and uronefrology or kidney (KJSU).

The four hospitals began construction in 2023 and are targeted for completion this year. For example, Vertical Hospital in IKN will begin construction on December 20, 2023, targeted for completion in July 2024.

Meanwhile, Vertical Hospitals in Jayapura will begin construction on September 3, 2023 and are targeted for completion in November 2024, Vertical Hospitals Surabaya and Makassar are also targeted to start operating this year.

"The two vertical hospitals in Papua and Makassar are planned to become superhub hospitals at the end referral service centers for central and eastern Indonesia, such as Maluku, Papua, Sulawesi, and Kalimantan," he said.

The UPT Vertical Hospital in Surabaya is designed to provide comprehensive services, especially for catalyst diseases, ranging from diagnostics, teraptics, to rehabilitative. The vertical UPT hospital also aims to compete with other hospitals in Asia.

Last year, the Ministry of Health also operated a new Vertical Hospital, namely Dr. Ben Mboi Hospital, in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) so that cancer, heart, stroke, and uronefrology patients no longer need to be referred outside the area which makes the patient's family have to spend high costs.

In addition to building new hospitals, said Nadia, the Ministry of Health is also building additional infrastructure to serve mothers and children in six Vertical hospitals in five provinces.

The construction of additional infrastructure is carried out by expanding infrastructure in six vertical hospitals belonging to the Ministry of Health in five provinces, namely DKI Jakarta, West Java, DI Yogyakarta, Bali, and Makassar.

The six hospitals are Dharmais Cancer Hospital and Friendship Hospital of DKI Jakarta Province, Dr Hasan Sadikin Hospital Bandung in West Java, Dr. Sardjito Hospital in DI Yogyakarta Province, Prof.I.GN.G. Ngoerah Denpasar in Bali Province, and Dr Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital in Makassar Province.

"The latest service is targeted to start operating this year," he said.

In addition to having a service function for patients, said Nadia, a vertical hospital will also be developed into an educational hospital that carries out educational functions, research centers, and health development.
