JAKARTA - Candidate for vice president number 3 Mahfud MD clarified his statement on social media about the great sin of allowing mothers to give birth to poor children.

Mahfud also explained that the guilty are the government if they let mothers not get a decent job so they cannot educate their children properly.

"That's the context someone asked during the meeting. Sir, what if the mother gives birth to the child has no morals. I say yes, our sin if we let the mother give birth to an immoral child, we are the ones who sin, not the mother who sin," Mahfud said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, January 29.

This was conveyed by Mahfud at a meeting of traditional and religious leaders in Pekanbaru, Riau.

This statement, which became a polemic by netizens, was conveyed by Mahfud MD when answering a presenter's question at the "Tabrak Prof" event in Bandar Lampung, Thursday (25/1/).

Therefore, according to Mahfud, women need to be given a decent job with adequate wages so that they can develop an educated generation.

"Therefore, I say that mothers must be given decent jobs, not to work early in the morning. Wages are not feasible, not protected by the state, so that their children after birth are left uneducated," Mahfud said while asking reporters to see the original video of the activity in Bandar Lampung.

Mahfud reiterated that the purpose of the statement was for mothers to be given welfare in work. That way, children will be well educated if welfare at home is created.

"We say, tomorrow the protection of these women from a labor point of view will be given attention to be more prosperous so that the children can be educated well and have morals," he explained.

Previously, netizens highlighted and were busy attacking Mahfud on social media timelines. Mahfud is considered to have issued a statement, a big sin for a mother giving birth to her daughter who has no morals.

In fact, if examined carefully, Mahfud's statement when answering the attendance's question at the Collision Prof. event in Lampung, Thursday (25/1/2024), was not as accused by netizens.

"Allowing mothers and mothers to give birth to children who are not moral, it is a big sin to this nation. This nation will be destroyed when future generations have no ethics and have no morals," Mahfud said at the time.
