Five DOBs In Kaltara Still Waiting For Presidential Approval, Constrained By Expansion Moratorium

TANJUNG SELOR - Tanjung Selor City as the capital city of North Kalimantan Province (Kaltara), is still a sub-district in the Bulungan Regency area.

The Director General of Regional Autonomy of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), Akmal Malik explained that Tanjung Selor, as the capital of the 34th Province, has been proposed to become a new autonomy area (DOB) of municipality.

However, the DOB application is still waiting for the president's approval. However, at this time the president has not revoked the moratorium on regional expansion.

"Regarding the Tanjung Selor DOB, it is still constrained by the moratorium, the proposed regional expansion is certainly different," he said, Wednesday, January 24.

Akmal Malik said that the condition of Kaltara Province is different from other regions that have received expansion approvals such as Papua.

There are 5 important things for an area to carry out special autonomy, namely because the state capital reduces conflicts and iscented by the nation, such as in Aceh and Papua.

"This Kaltara has great potential to develop its regions, let alone have border areas so that it has great potential for acceleration of regional development and development and has promising investment opportunities," he said.

According to him, the government is still imposing a moratorium due to a limited budget.

"What is being moratorized at this time is only the expansion, we know that there are 5 DOBs in Kaltara that have been proposed," he explained.

As proposed by regional expansion in Nunukan Regency, there are 3 proposals, namely the Sebatik City DOB which was proposed since 2011, Bumi Dayak Border Regency (Regency), which the DOB proposal was submitted in 2015.

"In Malinau Regency, there was a proposal for a DOB in 2016, namely Apau Kayan Regency. The last proposed DOB in 2020 in Bulungan Regency, namely Tanjung Selor City. All of these proposals have been submitted to the president through the Minister of Home Affairs, DPR RI and DPD RI. All are still waiting for the President's approval," he concluded.
