The Water Source Is Getting Closer Through 19 Drilling Wells Built By The NTT Provincial Government To Overcome El Nino's Long Drought

The East Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government built 19 bore wells in a number of districts in the island-based province to overcome the long drought as a result of the El Nino crisis. "This year in 2024 we built 19 bore wells spread across 19 districts from 22 regencies/cities in NTT," said Head of the NTT Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR) Maksi Nenabu in Kupang, Antara, Wednesday, January 24. The drill well program was built to anticipate drought and support raw water to support poverty in NTT. "The presence of bore wells can empower the social economy of the community," he said. However, the location for the construction of the drill well is still being surveyed by a team of experts to ensure the availability of groundwater. Acting Governor of NTT Ayodhia Kalake previously said that his party was boosting the construction of the NTT Province bore well. This aims to meet the needs of clean water for the community not only raw water but can help for agricultural and livestock needs. The East Nusa Tenggara provincial government has not been able to remove the status of the El Nino crisis that occurred in the island-based province.

This is because a mapping of which areas El Nino has affected in NTT is needed. If there is already a mapping and the data already exists, the government will take the next steps including status determination. Ayodhia explained that El Nino had an effect on planting time. Whether it is necessary to speed up the planting season or to delay it, wait for the rainy season.
