Mount Marapi Is Not OK, Residents Please Stay Away From A Radius Of 4.5 Kilometers

PADANG - Commander of Korem (Danrem) 032/Wirabraja Brigadier General (Brigjen) TNI Rayen Obersyl hopes that people living around the slopes of Mount Marapi will stay away from a radius of 4.5 kilometers from the peak of the eruption or Verbeek Crater. "Alhamdulillah, until now we have evacuated only 46 families (KK) from a radius of 4.5 kilometers, and I hope the local government thinks to relocate residents or at least we are safe from a radius of 4.5 kilometers," he said in Padang, West Sumatra, Antara, Tuesday, January 23. He said the 46 families came from Agam Regency and chose to flee to family homes, not to tents or locations prepared by the local government. According to him, if people still want to garden in the 4.5 kilometer zone with the consideration of survival or livelihood, it may still be tolerated. However, to live, it does not recommend. "If they try to garden, go ahead, but if it is occupied, the 4.5 kilometer radius should not be occupied," said Danrem Rayen. He said the relocation of 46 families was one of the proposals that would be submitted to the local government. The hope is that relevant stakeholders have prepared the evacuation site of Mount Marapi. Meanwhile, Head of the West Sumatra Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Rudi Rinaldi said he had coordinated several mitigation preparations with the Bukittinggi City BPBD, Agam Regency, Tanah Datar Regency, and Padang Panjang City, in the event of the worst possibility.

Most recently, the West Sumatra BPBD will form a companion post for Mount Marapi which is centered in the agency building. This post has a number of main tasks, including coordination between Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD) related to the eruption of Mount Marapi. "At this post, we will prepare two television stations that are used to directly monitor the conditions of Mount Marapi's activities," he said.
