DKI Jakarta BPBD Warns Potential Rob Flood

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has asked residents on the north coast of Jakarta to be aware of the potential for flooding or tidal flooding on January 21-27, 2024.

"BMKG Class I Maritime Meteorological Station Tanjung Priok informed the warning of the potential for coastal flooding (rob) from January 21 to 27, 2024. We ask residents of the northern coastal area of Jakarta to be vigilant," said Head of BPBD DKI Jakarta Isnawa AjiI. official statement, in Jakarta, Sunday.

He explained that the phenomenon of the full moon phase has the potential to increase the maximum sea level in the form of coastal flooding (rob) in the north coastal area of Jakarta.

He detailed residents in the northern coastal areas of DKI Jakarta such as Kamal Muara, Kapuk Muara, Penjaringan, Pluit, Ancol, Kamal, Marunda, Cilincing, Kalibaru and Muara Angke in order to anticipate the impact of tidal sea water which has the potential for tidal waves.

According to Isnawa, the peak of the maximum tide of sea water is 07.00-11.00 WIB.

BPBD urges residents to continue to monitor the latest information regarding sea waves on the official BPBD website through bpbd.jakarta.go.id/globage.

Meanwhile, the Head of the BMKG Maritime Meteorology Center, Eko Prasetyo, said that in addition to the new moon phase, the potential for coastal flooding (rob) that week also occurs when entering the full moon.

The potential for tidal flooding in general will have an impact on community activities around ports and coastal areas, such as loading and unloading activities at ports, activities in coastal settlements, as well as salt ponds and land fisheries activities.
