DPR Has Not Yet Voted On The Acceleration Of The 2024 Pilkada

The nine faction groups (Poctions) in Commission II of the DPR have not voted in response to the proposal to accelerate the schedule for the 2024 Regional Head Election (Pilkada) from November to September.

This is what the Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR, Saan Mustopa, said as one of the points that still need to be discussed together. Moreover, if the 2024 Pilkada is accelerated to September, of course the DPR must be considered how the burden is on the organizers of the 2024 General Election.

"Of course, such a large workload will have implications for the quality, quality of elections and regional elections. We in the DPR are also divided," said Saan, Sunday, January 21.

He admitted that the DPR had determined the revision of Law Number 10 of 2016 concerning the Election of Governors, Regents, and Mayors (Pilkada), to be the proposal for the DPR initiative. However, the DPR has not yet received a presidential letter (surpres) to discuss it.

He said the revision of the Pilkada Law could be discussed by Commission II, the Legislation Body (Baleg), or the special committee (pansus). But hopefully, the idea of accelerating the 2024 simultaneous regional elections to September must consider the workload of the organizers of the 2024 General Election.

"This must be a consideration in later making the stage whose surpres will be submitted to the DPR, still that this must be a consideration and a separate thought," said Saan.

Previously, the Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian revealed that if the implementation of the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada was not accelerated, there would be a potential vacancy for regions in many regions. Because of the current conditions, there are 101 regions and four new autonomous regions in Papua which will be filled by regional head officials since 2022.
