Germany Plans To Send Ammunition To Israel

JAKARTA - The German government plans to supply Israel with lethal ammunition to support Tel Aviv in the fight against Hamas, local media wrote.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz's administration is considering supplying Israel with about 10,000 rounds of high-precision 120-millimeter ammunition, Der Spiegel weekly wrote.

Reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Wednesday, January 17, after receiving a request from Israel in November, the relevant ministries have discussed the matter, and in principle have agreed to comply with the request, the magazine said.

However, German defense companies will not be able to meet demand for ammunition in the near future, and therefore, the German government will use ammunition from German army supplies to meet the request.

Despite being criticized by its own people, the German government has consistently supported Israeli military attacks in Gaza. Scholz has repeatedly said his country bears special responsibility for Israel because of the Nazi past.

Israel launched a relentless military offensive in Gaza following a cross-border attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023, which is claimed to have killed about 1,200 Israelis.

Israel's blind attacks in Gaza have killed at least 24,448 Palestinians and 61,504 others injured. The majority of the victims were children and women.

According to the United Nations, 85 percent of Gaza's population has become refugees amid food, clean water, and medicine crises.
