Nawawi Jokes About Substitute KPK Leaders: We're Waiting, But If We Add One It's A Little Sak In View

JAKARTA - The interim chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Nawawi Pomolango said that his party had surrendered to wait for a figure who would fill one seat as a leader after Firli Bahuri resigned. The process was fully handed over to the president and DPR RI.

It is known that Firli resigned as Chairman of the KPK after being a suspect in the alleged extortion of former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo, whose case was handled by the Polda Metro Jaya. President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) then signed a Presidential Decree (Keppres) which also appointed Nawawi as interim chairman.

"So once again our vacancy here is fully handed over to the president and the DPR to respond to it. We are waiting," Nawawi told reporters on the KPK RI YouTube show quoted Wednesday, January 17.

Even so, Nawawi jokingly said that the new people who would be elected by the president and the DPR would make the seats short.

He conveyed this joke because at the 2023 KPK performance record press conference, Nawawi sat with three Deputy Chairmen of the KPK Nurul Ghufron, Alexander Marwata, and Johanis Tanak. Meanwhile, the other seats have been occupied by the Head of the KPK News Section, Ali Fikri, who guides the course of his activities.

"If we look at this position, if we add one more, it will be a bit crowded later," said Nawawi, who was greeted by laughter from his colleagues.

"Usually, if it's a bit crowded, it's not too urgent," he continued.

It didn't stop there, Nawawi then asked where the new figure would sit when he was chosen.

"If you add another one, where is it, it's a bit of a hassle. So it's not too urgent, right," he concluded with a smile.
