300 Families In DIY Enter The Transmigration Wait List Until 2024

YOGYAKARTA - The Manpower and Transmigration Office (Disnakertrans) noted that prospective transmigrants from the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) who were on the waiting list to be dispatched to the transmigration location until 2024 reached 300 families (KK).

"The animo is very high. Until now, the waiting list has reached around 300 families," said Head of the Manpower Placement Protection and Expansion of Job Opportunities and Transmigration of the DIY Manpower and Transmigration Disnakertrans Elly Supriyanti in Yogyakarta, Tuesday, January 16, as reported by Antara.

He considered that the high interest was influenced by the narrow employment opportunities on the island of Java and the tendency of registrants to work in the agricultural sector.

"Registrants who dominate are residents of Gunung Kidul and Bantul Regencies, although other districts also exist with the most attractive placements in Sumatra and Kalimantan," he said.

Although the interest is high, according to him, the quota for transmigration programs in DIY has decreased every year.

In 2023, DIY will receive a transmigration allocation of 20 families with the most placements in Central Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi Province. This number decreased from 2022 which still received the allocation of 51 families.

The DIY regular transmigration quota in 2024, said Elly, is still waiting for a decree (SK) from the Director General of Transmigration, Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration (Kemendes PDTT).

The quota, he said, is absolutely determined by the central government by adjusting the available budget.

"The one who determines the complete quota of central policies, but we usually keep trying so that later there can be additional," he said.

Based on data from the DIY Manpower and Transmigration Office for the last 15 years from 2008 to 2022, DIY has sent 2,116 families or 6,823 people to various regions in Sulawesi, Kalimantan, and Sumatra.

According to him, the DIY Manpower and Transmigration Office has the task of providing the skills of each transmigrant candidate before leaving for the destination.

The prepared bulk, he said, includes agriculture, plantations, entrepreneurship, including the ability to adapt to fellow transmigrants, new environments, and natives in the destination area.
