Ganjar-Mahfud MD Will Focus On Returning The Old KPK Law If Elected In The 2024 Presidential Election

JAKARTA - Vice Presidential Candidate number three, Mahfud MD, said that the KPK Law would be returned as before it was revised. This possibility is open to restoring its glory.

This was conveyed by Mahfud MD in the Operation of the Ideas and Vision of the Candidate for National Leaders which was held at the Baruga Building Andi Pangeran Pettarani Hasanuddin University (Unhas), Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Saturday, January 13, 2024.

Initially, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs talked about the level of confidence of the Anti-corruption Commission which decreased after the revision of the law.

"For the KPK, which is currently lacking in trust. However, in my opinion, the KPK is still needed because it used to triumph with the old law," Mahfud said as quoted from his written statement.

This condition makes Mahfud feel the need for the law that oversees the institution to be returned to its original state. Thus, the level of KPK's trust can recover after several events.

The current anti-corruption commission has been highlighted for a number of problems. One of them was the appointment of Firli Bahuri as a suspect in the alleged extortion of the former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan), Syahrul Yasin Limpo, by Polda Metro Jaya.

"Frankly, the law was returned to the former. That's what matters," he said to the roar of applause from students.

He and Ganjar confirmed that they would make the process of returning the KPK Law the main agenda if they were elected as president and vice president.

"In my opinion, in the future it will be repaired. I agree this will be corrected," said Mahfud.

"Our agenda is to change the KPK Law to return it to the old one with a selection process that doesn't have to involve the DPR too much. Just objective," he concluded.
