Luhut Concerning BYD's Presence Next Week: Bring A New Era For Indonesia

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, said that the electric car giant from China, BYD, will enter Indonesia next week.

Luhut assessed that the presence of this electric car will take Indonesia to a new era, namely the use of motorized vehicles that are more environmentally friendly. The reason is, electric car products in the domestic market will have more choices.

"ByD on 18 (January 2024) wants to launch and that will bring a new era for Indonesia," Luhut said in a video caption on his official Instagram account @luhut.pandjaitan, quoted on Saturday, January 13, 2024.

According to him, the quality of BYD cars is not inferior to Tesla. This is because the company has beaten Tesla as the world's best-selling electric car manufacturer throughout 2023.

"Yes, I think with BYD entering him, right, the sales have now exceeded Tesla, yes. The quality is not inferior to Tesla," he said.

"Of course, I also use this opportunity to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in Indonesia," he said.

As previously reported, BYD, a Chinese car manufacturer that is now recognized as a serious competitor for Tesla, will officially launch its products in Indonesia next week. This news was conveyed through an invitation received by the VOI Editor.

In the invitation it was written, "January 2024 will be the debut for BYD to enliven the passenger vehicle market in Indonesia as well as strengthen Indonesia as part of the global BYD long-term business expansion map."

BYD is committed to bringing the latest New Energy Vehicle (NEV) technology to Indonesia, which will contribute to building an environmentally friendly vehicle ecosystem.

This step is in line with the Government of the Republic of Indonesia's efforts to reduce exhaust emissions. BYD will hold a press conference and brand launching as part of its presence.
