Taxi driver from NTT is a suspect in the extortion of US citizens in Bali/DOK Denpasar Police

DENPASAR - The wrong decision to mention the number 50 was the beginning of the case of a taxi driver from NTT threatening foreign tourists from the United States (US) in Bali.

The perpetrator Yanuarius Toebkae (20) misunderstood the term number 50 when two US Caucasians with the initials LS and LN stopped the perpetrator's taxi.

At that time US foreigners said a 'fifty' which was thought to be a taxi driver of 50 US dollars. It turned out that US foreigners actually gave 50 thousand rupiah denominations

"When the victim stopped the taxi belonging to the victim, the victim said the "fifty" which the perpetrator thought was 50 dollars, it turned out that the victim gave Rp50.000 which irritated the perpetrator. The mode was to extort the victim using a tool in the form of a folding fan as if holding a knife by signaling slitting the neck using the perpetrator's left hand," he said.

Two US foreigners stopped the perpetrator's taxi in front of Seminyak Village, Kuta. One of the foreigners called the word 'fifty'.

The driver agreed and took the two US foreigners to the Beach Club Potato Head. Arriving at the destination, US foreigners gave Rp50 thousand.

Here the taxi driver alias the perpetrator was upset. Had thrown a blow but it didn't hit a US foreigner.

The taxi driver then asked for 50 US dollars. There the perpetrator took a folding fan as if he was holding a knife.

A US Caucasians who are afraid to spend 100 US Dollars or around Rp. 1.5 million to be given to the perpetrators.

"The perpetrator immediately left the location to return to look for other taxi passengers," he added.

"At that time there was no knife. We searched the vehicle (the knife) which seemed to be similar to a knife," said Denpasar Police Chief.

The perpetrator was charged with Article 368 concerning extortion with a maximum imprisonment of 9 years.
