JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) has officially rebuked social media platform X regarding the findings of online gambling advertisements circulating on its services. "The Ministry of Communication and Informatics has warned platform X because of complaints from the public who complain about the rise of online gambling advertisements," said Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi in a short message to ANTARA, Tuesday, January 9. The warning from the Ministry of Communication and Informatics was conveyed through a Letter sent with the number R-09/M.KOMINFO/AI.05.02/01/2024. In the letter, the Minister of Communication and Information instructed X Corp (Twitter) to immediately eradicate online gambling advertisements on its platform. He emphasized that all parties will receive the same treatment from the Ministry of Communication and Informatics if they contain advertisements or online gambling content such as platform X. Previously, a similar step by giving a strong warning regarding online gambling was also carried out by the Ministry of Communications and Informatics in 2023 to Meta, which is the parent company of Facebook and Instagram. At that time, Minister of Communication and Information Budi gave a strong warning to Meta management in Indonesia to immediately clean up online gambling content from all of its platforms. In addition, the Directorate General of Informatics Applications of the Ministry of Communication and Information stated its commitment to continue to monitor online gambling content on various digital platforms. " “The Ministry of Communication and Informatics is committed to eradicating online gambling in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Online gambling must be eradicated because it is very detrimental to the small people," said Budi. Throughout July 17 to December 30, 2023, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics has succeeded in blocking more than 805,923 online gambling content in the form of sites, IPs, applications, and file sharing. This achievement is equivalent to the accumulated blocking of online gambling content that has been carried out by the government for the previous five years.

Not only online gambling content, but the Minister of Communication and Information Technology has also succeeded in blocking more than 5000 bank accounts and e-wallet accounts which are indicated to be used for online gambling activities.
