Dumai Immigration Moves 17 Rohingya Refugees To Pekanbaru

DUMAI - Dumai Immigration Office transferred 17 Rohingya refugees to the Immigration Detention Center of the Riau Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office in Pekanbaru by riding two official vehicles.

Head of the Immigration Intelligence and Enforcement Section of the Dumai Immigration Office, Dianta Kita Sinuraya, said that dozens of Rohingya refugees had previously occupied the Dumai Rudenim for about a week since being entrusted by the Medang Kampai Dumai Sector Police and KP Hayabusa Baharkam Polri.

"During the Dumai Immigration Rudenim deposit, dozens of refugees from Myanmar have undergone identity checks, health and chronology of arrivals to Dumai. These Rohingya residents are in good health and we have carried out a number of inspection procedures before leaving for Pekanbaru," said Diantadi Dumai as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 9.

Rohingya refugees, consisting of nine men and eight women, including one toddler, were initially promised by someone to be sent to Malaysia through illegal channels. However, the police thwarted the attempt.

The existence of these Rohingya residents was originally in the Aceh Camp for about two or three months. They are marked by yellow bracelets from the international UN High Commissioner for Refugees or the United Nations Refugee Affairs High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

"During the Dumai Rudenim deposit, they were quite cooperative and did not fight back, so their delivery to Pekanbaru was only escorted by Immigration officers without involving the police," said Dianta.

Previously, as many as 12 Rohingya refugees were secured by the Medang Kampai Police from two different locations in Pelintung Village, Medang Kampai District on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. Then five more Rohingya refugees were alerted by the Hayabusa-3008 Patrol Vessel Ditpolair Korpolairud Baharkam Polri, which is still around Pelintung, Medang Kampa District on Tuesday (2/1) afternoon.

KP Commander Hayabusa-308 Inspector One Andi Yasser said the police had been involved in a chase with Avanza and Calya who were transporting Rohingya refugees on the Dumai-Sei Pakning Cross Road.

Information on the presence of these foreigners was obtained from the public and members of the Hayabusa KP finally found them on the side of the road after being taken down randomly by the car that was carrying them.
