PeKANBARU - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Riau Province has set nine regions, namely Rokan Hilir, Rokan Hulu, Bengkalis, Kampar, Kuantan Singingi, Siak, Indragiri Hulu, Pelalawan and Pekanbaru Regencies with flood disaster emergency status to minimize victims.

"The determination of the flood emergency alert status is important according to Presidential Decree No. 8 of 2008 concerning BNPB, in Article 2 paragraph (2) it is explained that a disaster emergency is an effort to deal with disasters that include disaster prevention, emergency response handling, rehabilitation and reconstruction fairly and equally," said Head of BPBD Riau, M. Edy Afrizal as reported by ANTARA, Monday, January 8.

According to him, the determination of the flood emergency alert is also in accordance with the Regulation of the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency Number 03 of 2016 concerning the Disaster Emergency Management Command System.

He said the regulation of the Head of BNPB stated that the emergency alert status was a situation when the potential threat of disaster had led to a disaster marked by information on an increase in threats.

"Therefore, the Riau BPBD itself has given an appeal to district and city governments to establish emergency posts in their respective areas. Ensure that facilities, infrastructure, and personnel are ready to be used during floods," he said.

In addition, his party has distributed logistical assistance to a number of areas such as in Kuansing in the form of 100 kilograms of sugar, 96 cans of sardines, 48 liters of cooking oil, 100 sheets of blankets, 100 sheets of sarongs, 100 sheets of goedie bags, 408 pcs of liquid soap, 432 pcs of stem soap.

BPBD Riau also established public posts and kitchens around the location besides PT Refinery Pertamina Internasional (PT KPI) Refinery Unit Dumai also distributed 270 food packages in Kepenghuluan Teluk Berembun, Tanah Putih District, Rokan Hilir Regency, Riau.

The assistance was in the form of 1.3 tons of rice, 135 liters of cooking oil, 2,700 eggs and more than 67 boxes of indomie. Four tarpaulins can be used for temporary evacuation for residents whose houses are submerged.
