BMKG Predicts A Number Of Provinces In Indonesia Potentially Rainfall This Saturday, Anything?

JAKARTA - Most provinces in Indonesia have the potential to experience moderate to heavy rain which can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds this Saturday.

Quoted on the official website of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), areas that have the potential for heavy rain this Saturday accompanied by strong winds are Aceh, Bali, Bangka Belitung, Banten, Bengkulu, DKI Jakarta, Gorontalo, Jambi, West Java, West Java, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, and Lampung. In addition, North Maluku, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, Papua, West Papua, Riau, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, West Sumatra, South Sumatra, and North Sumatra. The Deputy for Meteorology BMKG Guswanto appealed to the public to remain alert to potential extreme weather in several areas for the next week or January 3-10, 2024.

"Based on the latest analysis, there are atmospheric dynamics conditions that trigger the potential for extreme weather in several areas," he said, reported by ANTARA, Saturday, January 6. He explained that the Winter Asian Monsoon which is associated as the westerly wind season is one of the factors that trigger extreme weather in several regions. "The Asian monsoon is starting to show its impact on the potential for increasing wet air mass around Indonesia, so the growth of rain clouds in the January period is predicted to be quite intense," he said.

In addition, he said, Madden Jullian Oscillation (MJO) activities have now begun to enter Indonesian territory. Meanwhile, in the next week, it can indirectly trigger an increase in the potential for moderate to heavy rain in several areas.

"This condition is reinforced by Rossby wave activity in the western part of Indonesia and it will last for the next five days," he concluded.
