JAKARTA - PT. Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) stated that the flood hitting Jakarta and other areas around it on Saturday, February 20 caused 61,320 customers to suffer a blackout.

General Manager of PLN's Jakarta Raya Distribution Main Unit, Doddy B. Pangaribuan, said that this happened because 180 power stations owned by the company were flooded.

"PLN takes security measures by prioritizing public safety. For that we will continue to be on standby to monitor the electricity system in the affected areas," he said in a press statement.

Doddy added, his party appealed to the public to always be aware of the dangers of electricity in the rainy season and floods.

"Yesterday, when the floods began to recede, PLN managed to restore 100 percent of the electricity at 22.30 Western Indonesia time. However, heavy rains that occurred last night caused flooding to hit Jakarta again," he said.

"When water starts to enter the house, residents can independently turn off the electricity from the Mini Circuit Breaker (MCB) at the kWh meter," he concluded.
