TNI AL Dumai Secures 36 Illegal PMIs From Malaysia

DUMAI - The Dumai Naval Base rapid reaction team secured 36 Indonesian migrant workers suspected of being non-procedural from Malaysia illegally entering Indonesia in the Pelintung Coastal Area, Dumai City, Riau.

The Commander of Lanal Dumai Marine Colonel (P) Kariady Bangun said the 36 PMIs were secured while waiting for the car to be picked up to the Dumai City Bus Terminal, Thursday (28/12).

PMI is suspected to be illegal, consisting of 24 men and 12 women were arrested by officers after several hours of deepening from 00.30 WIB to 05.00 WIB.

"It is reported that Indonesian migrant workers from Malaysia will enter illegally or non-procedurally through our waters. Therefore, the team was dispatched to manage the information and was finally found on the coast of Pelintung Beach," said Colonel Kariady Bangun as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, December 29.

Furthermore, PMI was taken to Mako Lanal Dumai for inspection and checking of luggage, and the results of no other illegal goods or objects were found.

"It is suspected that these non-procedural PMIs violated Law 18 of 2017 concerning the protection of Indonesian migrant workers, then they together with evidence were handed over to P4MI Dumai for further processing," said Danlanal.

The success of the Indonesian Navy, continued Danlanal Kariady, is a form of readiness and preparedness for Lanal Dumai in dealing with various threats of trafficking in persons in the work area.

"This action is in accordance with instructions from the Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali," said Danlanal.
