LAHAT - Cultural and tourism activists in Lahat Regency, South Sumatra checked the findings of objects suspected of being relics of the megalithic period. This finding is in the form of four stone mortars in the middle of a coffee plantation.
The head of the Paranomic of Lahat tourism group, Mario Andramatik, said the stone mortar was reviewed by his team on Thursday, February 18 in Bandar Aji Village, Jarai District, Lahat Regency.
"The location of this finding is arguably a new megalithic site," he said as quoted by Antara, Friday, February 19.
Mario, who is also a special staff for tourism at the Lahat Regency Government, explained that his party received reports from residents regarding the existence of a stone mortar with one hole found in Bandar Aji Village, 82 kilometers from Lahat City.
Not far from the location, his team found a trilith or a structure consisting of two large vertical stones with a third horizontal rock at the top, but the trilith was covered with grass.
After cleaning, his team found a three-hole stone mortar with a divider in each hole, the location of the discovery is still in the coffee plantation.
His team then moved 200 meters from the second mortar and found a three-hole stone mortar with the same hole diameter, namely 14 centimeters.
When the team left the coffee plantation, again found a stone mortar with two holes, bringing the total number of finds to four.
"Actually, residents almost every day see these stones, but they do not realize that the stones we have identified are historical objects," he said.
Furthermore, the four stone mortars were added to the list of found megalithic objects in Lahat Regency so that they could be proposed as cultural heritage objects of South Sumatra.
"Until finally collectively the megalithic sites in Lahat can be proposed as UNESCO world heritage," he emphasized.
