Why Was The KPK Council Not Immediately Fired Firli Bahuri?

JAKARTA - The KPK Supervisory Board cannot immediately determine the decision to dismiss the inactive KPK chairman Firli Bahuri who was proven to have violated the code of ethics rules.

Chairman of the KPK Council, Tumpak Hatorangan Panggabean, emphasized that he could remove the position of chairman of the KPK, only the president.

"KPK cannot fire, the Supervisory Board does not have that authority. That is the authority of the president to dismiss. The Council of Council only asks the person concerned to resign. It is about whether he will be respectful or disrespectful. That will be the President who determines that," said Tumpak at the ACLC building. KPK, Jakarta, Wednesday 27 December.

Tumpak admitted that he had received a letter from Firli Bahuri regarding the resignation application addressed to President Jokowi. In addition, the former KPK leader who is familiarly called Opung said the decision was final, there was no appeal or cassation.

Meanwhile, member of the KPK Council Albertina Ho said the rules for dismissing the KPK leadership were contained in Article 32 of Law Number 19 of 2019 concerning the KPK.

He explained that the KPK leadership who became a suspect could be temporarily dismissed. Furthermore, the temporary dismissal of the KPK leadership who became a suspect was determined through a Presidential Decree.

"So we ask him to resign. Later it will be processed by the president there, that," added Albertina.
